Joanne Hunt Joanne Hunt was born in Montreal in 1965. She moved to Nova Scotia in 1981 and pursued a career in graphic design which spanned over 15 years. A lifelong, self-taught painter, she decided in 2000 to dedicate her time to the development of her watercolour skills. Elected to the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour in 2002, she has exhibited in a number of exhibitions including the acclaimed Open Water of the CSPWC in Halifax in 2002 and Toronto - 2003 where she was the recipient of the Jarvis Award for her painting, Onion Salt. Although early in her career, she is best known for her realistic still life compositions. The role of light, not only its colour and intensity, but how it interacts and plays with other objects is what I like to bring to the forefront of my work. I am fascinated by the illusion of depth and how to achieve it on a two dimensional plane. By the careful placement of line and colour, I attempt to draw the viewer in...to experience the scene as I see it and perhaps even feel as though they could touch it. I use objects to tell stories, set a mood, and/or to take the audience back to an earlier time. It is no wonder antiques frequently take center stage in my paintings. |
