Alison Murphy A native New Brunswicker, Alison Murphy attended the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design - graduating in 2004 with a major in Textiles. She worked at Kings Landing Historical Settlement as part of the interpretation staff responsible for programming in weaving, fibre dying and spinning. Alison's work has been featured in many Atlantic regional craft fairs and exhibitions dedicated to fibre arts. She is the recipient of the Nel Oudemans Scholarship (2003), the New Brunswick Arts Board Scholarship (2003) and the New Brunswick Arts Board Creative Grant (2007). "My world is defined by colour. I notice colour everywhere, whether in my own garden, the Saturday Farmers' Markets, or the subtle snow of winter. My work with textiles reflects the layers of colour and the natural flowing lines of the Maritime landscape. I also enjoy experimenting with unlikely colour combinations and textures. I live in rural New Brunswick and the rolling hills, trees and river are a constant influence in my life and hence in my designs. Working with my surroundings creates a profound connection with my external world and yet allows me to continue my love affair with colour and fibre." |
