John Neville was born and raised in the small fishing village of Halls Harbour, Nova Scotia. He studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where he graduated in 1976. He spent a year studying at the Centre De Gravure Contemporaine in Geneva, Switzerland. His works have been featured in solo exhibitions at the Gallery House Nobleboro, Maine, South Street Seaport Museum in New York, Marianne Friedland Gallery in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax and Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S. and here in Sackville at Fog Forest Gallery in the spring of 1999. An exhibition entitled, “The Sea and Beyond” toured Scotland.

His works are found in permanent collections such as: Dundee Education Authority Collection - Scotland, Canada Council Art Bank, Confederation Centre Art Gallery- Charlottetown , the Nova Scotia Art Bank, The Canadiana Fund- Ottawa, ESSO Resources Canada - Calgary, Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery and Dalhousie University Art Gallery of Halifax. John Neville’s work is easily recognized by it’s distinctive style. He uses his finely tuned skills as a visual artist to record the traditions of his community and to document the events of his family in rural Nova Scotia. These interpretations are often witty, always insightful and visually appealing.
