Christopher Pratt
Christopher
Pratt completed his studies at Mount Allison University, Faculty of Fine
Arts, and the Glasgow School of Art in 1961. Since then, his meticulous
work has been exhibited widely in Canada, the United States of America,
Great Britain and Europe, in many group and one-man shows.
He is represented in major public, private and corporate collections in
Canada and elsewhere, and his work has been the subject of numerous articles,
reviews and publications. He is the recipient of four honorary doctorates,
was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1973 and a Companion of
the Order of Canada in 1983. A major retrospective of his paintings, prints
and drawings, organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery, toured Canada in
1985.
Christopher Pratt was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1935 and
continues to paint, make prints and write in his home and studio on the
Salmonier River in St. Mary’s Bay in Newfoundland.
A selected list of exhibitions include: Mira Godard Gallery in Toronto,
Canadian Embassy Gallery, Washington DC, Edmonton Art Gallery, Art Gallery
of Nova Scotia, 49th Parallel Gallery, New York, Vancouver Art Gallery,
Canadian Cultural Centre Gallery in London England which traveled to Venice,
Italy, Rome, Glasgow, Dublin and Vienna.
Pratt’s works are found in such collections as the National Gallery
of Canada, The Art Gallery of Hamilton Ontario, Art Gallery of Newfoundland
and Labrador, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Confederation Art Gallery, Montreal
Museum of Fine Arts, Bank of Montreal, The Canada Council Art Bank, C.I.L.
Collection, Department of External Affairs, Imperial Oil Collection, London,
Life Collection, Price Waterhouse, Toronto, Shell Canada Collection, Swiss
Bank Corporation, to name a few.
