Alice
Reed
Alice
Reed has established herself as a respected and capable watercolourist.
She was born in Toronto and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from
Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. With the guidance
and encouragement of her professor, Ted Pulford, she pursued the study
of watercolours, an elusive and demanding medium.
Alices watercolours are a celebration of nature. An environmentalist
at heart, she paints to communicate her deepfelt love for the rich diversity
of nature and to draw others to see, appreciate, respect, and protect
it. Her landscape interpretations explore the relationships of light and
atmosphere, form and color. Her paintings express the subjective qualities
of spirit and mood suggested by the interplay of natural elements. She
controls the watercolour medium in a way that reflects her confidence
and personal commitment to technical excellence.
The list of exhibitions to her credit are extensive in both private and
public galleries; Mount Saint Vincent University (1992-1985), Libbys
of Toronto (2000-1987), Houston North Gallery, Lunenburg N.S. (1993-1982),
Kitchener/Waterloo Art Gallery. Her work is found in many collections
such as; Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce,
Nova Scotia Art Bank, I.B.M. Canada, Owens Art Gallery, Atlantic
Lottery Corporation, Zurich Insurance Canada.
